PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

I really want to encourage one and all to come to our final meeting at Windrows on Monday, May 15th.  It’s the perfect occasion to bring guests and introduce them to the club.  Our treasurer, Nancy Lifland, is concerned that so few have signed up.

In the past we have always been able to accommodate late comers at the door, but we cannot do this May 15th.  So please get your reservation to Nancy as soon as possible.  And, heavens, let me know if you have questions.

The May meeting is our year-end meeting and you will get the chance to vote on the new slate of club officers and to hear about the Princeton Festival that’s on the horizon.  We will remember a year which brought the sad news of the loss of the Ju family home from fire and the death of our beloved member and treasured friend Marge White.  And yet we will celebrate the wonderful windfall of the Luna Kayser bequest.

We welcome eleven new members (whom we will “officially” celebrate on June 12th at a tea at Josephine Ondetti’s home).  We shall have our scholarship tea at Ginny Mason’s home on Tuesday, May 23rd  where we can chat with our scholarship winners and their families.  There is a lot going on, so put on your dancing shoes and get ready for May and a wonderful lunch and meeting at Windrows!

GENERAL MEETING:

THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM:  THE PRINCETON ARTS FESTIVAL’S 2017 SEASON
Monday, May 15, 2017 at Windrows – 12:00 p.m.

June is an exciting month for Princeton as the Princeton Festival, New Jersey’s premier performing arts festival presents its 2017 season.

Recognized as one of the nation’s outstanding arts destination, the Festival includes opera, ballet, musicals, piano competitions, choral and orchestral concerts, jazz, lectures and workshops, and much more.

It is an exciting time to be here and to have an opportunity to experience these events featuring “nationally-renowned professional artists in more than ten different types of performances.”

We will be taken into the heart of the Festival by our speaker, Gregory Geerhern,  Assistant Conductor, who will speak to us about “The Impossible Dream:  The Princeton Arts Festival’s 2017 Season”.  Join in the festivities, bring guests, and enjoy an afternoon of excitement and inspiration.

Janet Reiche

BOARD MEETING:

The board meeting on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 will be held at the home of Kathy Hutchins.  Meeting begins promptly at 10:00 a.m.  Please call Kathy (609-430-1565) if you are unable to attend.  Arrive a little beforehand for coffee and greetings.

LUNCHING OUT GROUP:

Bonnie Larson will email those on the list of members who have shown interest in monthly luncheons with other members to inform them of the current restaurant choice.  If you wish to join the group, please call Bonnie.

OPERA GROUP:

The final opera in the MET/HD’s current series will be presented on May 13, 2017.   Richard Strauss’ “DER ROSENKAVALIER” starring Renee Fleming will be shown at the AMC in Hamilton beginning at 12:30 p.m.  Please note the different starting time.

This has been Fleming’s signature role and will be the last time she will sing this.  Rumors are that she may resign from opera productions.  She is now in her late fifties and at the top of her career.

Elina Garanca, Erin Morley, Matthew Polenzani, Marcus Bruck, and Gunther Groissbock will join her.

Director:  Gary Halvorson.
It will run approximately 4 ½ hours.

BOOK GROUP:

Marlene Gordon will be our host on May 25 at her home, in Princeton Junction.

We shall share our thoughts about The Wreck of the Medusa by Jonathan Miles.  Please call Marlene if you will be joining us at 1:00 p.m.

Each June we share poetry with each other.  Bring whatever you feel others may enjoy.
