PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:
I hope everyone enjoyed our January 19th get-together as much as I did. I am delighted that so many members showed up and even happier that so many people were interested in what and how we do what we do. And, of course, there are concerns that I did not get around to talking about and questions that I should have asked. Please don’t hesitate to let me know what was missed. So now comes a Blue Slip that is electronic and a fond farewell to cups and saucers.

GENERAL MEETING:
THE PRESIDENTS CLUB: RECENT PRESIDENTS IN RETIREMENT
On President’s Day, February 16, 2015 our speaker will be the Reverend David Mulford.
Reverend Mulford is a retired Presbyterian minister with degrees from Colgate, Princeton Theological Seminary, and Drew University, and has served churches in New York, New Jersey, and Florida. He has spoken to civic clubs, retirement communities, college classes, taught classes at adult educational programs and Elderhostels. David has spoken to us several times before and is a favorite of the Women’s College Club of Princeton.
David has had a life-long interest in the American Presidents and has done much research on them and their families. His President’s Day presentation to us is based on the book The Presidents Club by Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy. It looks at our more recent presidents and the interesting relationships they have developed with one another during their post-presidential years. His eloquence and knowledge will again entrance us as we acquire new insights into our country’s leaders.
We meet at All Saints Church in Princeton at 1:00 p.m. Guests are always welcome and we extend a special invitation to our new members.
Barbara Johnson
(Editor’s note: The book gives fascinating, unexpected insights about these men.)
TRIPS:
We are rescheduling the trip to Morven Museum and Garden where we shall have a tea and a docent-led tour of the Museum. The new date is Wednesday, March 25, 2015. The Museum is having plumbing problems and construction is necessary. The cost will be $20 for the Tea and the Tour. Morven is located at 55 Stockton St., Princeton. Tea will be served at 1:00 p.m., so come a little early. Call Nora Ananos, or Ellyn Vogel, 609-799-1437.
On Thursday, February 5, 2015 we shall tour the Princeton Theological Library at 64 Mercer Street, Princeton. Arrival time will be 10:45 to prepare for the 11:00 a.m. tour, after which we shall enjoy lunch at the newly-installed café at the Library. On arrival, turn off of Stockton St. to Seminary Lane, where there is municipal parking.
On Tuesday, March 3, 2015 we shall ride to the Philadelphia International Flower Show with the Princeton Recreation Department. The trip will take from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and cost $50. Lunch will be on your own.
APRIL FUNDRAISER:
Our one fundraiser this year will be in April.
WE SHALL NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE THIS A SUCCESS
NEEDED:
WHITE ELEPHANT SALE: Gently-used items for which you have no use but which someone else will have fun buying as a “treasure” for a small amount (think yard sale). Call Carol Stawski 609-737-0912 for pick-up or bring to the next board or general meeting.
SILENT AUCTION: With one or two other members, put together a basket with a theme, list what is inside, and the value of your offering. Call Aloha Holloway 609-424-0463 to avoid duplicates or for suggestions.
Another idea: Ask for a gift certificate at your favorite store, beauty parlor, or tradesman. Ask Kay Bingeman for our EiN# for tax-exempt status. A third idea: A holiday gift you really can’t use but for which someone else will find room.
McCAFFREY’S RECEIPTS:
A reminder that your receipts from McCaffrey’s will help us increase our Scholarship Fund. Please bring your receipts to the general meetings and give them to Beverly Kestenis. 1% of all eligible cash register receipts will be donated to WCCP. The total cannot include other discounts or purchases of milk, stamps, sushi, or cigarettes. For further information contact Beverly at 609-924-9703.
OPERA GROUP:
Aloha Holloway is the one to contact if you will be viewing the
the MET/HD’s rarely-performed “Iolantha” by Tchaikovsky and Bartok’s “Duke Bluebeard’s Castle” on February 14, 2015. These will be viewed at the AMC Theater in Hamilton.
The operas will begin at 12:30 p.m. and continue for 3 hours and 40 minutes, ending at about 4:10 p.m.
Call Aloha at 609-424-0463 if you want to enjoy these seldom-produced gems.
We recommend getting there early for better open seating.
LUNCHING OUT GROUP:
This popular new addition to our committees is chaired by Mary Laity. Each month those attending select a different restaurant in Mercer or Bucks County. To receive information about the latest arrangements, call Mary at 609-924-4740 or email her: mlaity@comcast.net.
BOOK GROUP:
Lives of Girls and Women by Alice Munro is the selection for the January 30 meeting at the home of Ellyn Vogel. Please call Ellyn , 609-799-1437, if you will be joining us.
On February 27, Aloha Holloway will be our hostess when Mona Lisa by Diana Hales will be the topic of discussion. Aloha lives at 71 Cayuga Road, Bordentown, and you can call her at 609-424-0463 if we shall see you there.
All meetings begin at 1:00 p.m. and include a light lunch.
BOARD MEETING:
Janet Reiche has arranged for us to meet at Windrows on February 3, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the upstairs room of the main building. Early arrivals will be able to enjoy a cup of coffee to wake them up.
IN MEMORIUM:
Ramona Peyton, a long-time member of the College Club, died January 10, following a fall. Several members of WCCP attended the Memorial Service for her at the Pennington Presbyterian Church on January 10, 2015. We shall miss you, Mona.
