Final General Meeting for Year – May 18, 2015

May 18, 2015 Annual Business Luncheon Meeting. Annual Meeting with election of the 2015-2016 Board Members and a semi-catered Annual Luncheon began at 12:00 p.m.. A short business meeting was held at 1:00 p.m. then followed by our speaker.Guest Speaker: Susan Gange of Stony Brook Orchids on “Growing Orchids in the Home.” Below are 13 photos taken during the event.

GROWING ORCHIDS IN THE HOME

Susan Gange of Stony Brook Orchids presented the program. Her enthusiasm for these exciting plants provided a stimulus after our hard winter, and her experience made success available to all of us (except possibly me).

Susan bought her first orchid in 1978 and promptly killed it, having relied on the rather sketchy orchid-growing information available to the hobby grower at that time. A couple of years later she tried again, with much better success, and it was her hope that, based on her many years of experience in growing orchids on window sills, under fluorescent lights and in greenhouses, her talk would also help attendees succeed with these beautiful flowering plants.

In February 2015 Susan was awarded the show trophy at the Deep Cut Orchid Society Show in Holmdel NJ for the best Phalaenopsis Orchid. She is past president of the Central Jersey Orchid Society, a member of the American Orchid Society, Secretary of the Delaware Valley Orchid Council, and a Rutgers Mercer County Master Gardener.

Susan brought a selection of orchid plants of all colors and sizes for us to admire.
