It was a pleasure this month to provide something different to go with the holiday season. Jon Hauge, the owner and manager of an interesting store, Savory Spice Shop, talked about the various types and flavors of spices as well as some history and other uses of them. There were samples to smell (or taste, if you like) of all of the spices he talked about. It was nice to learn about novel services in our town as we explore subjects that too often we take for granted. Friends who have heard Jon talk told us that we would learned a lot as we enjoyed his presentation. When asked for information, our speaker replied:
“From my earliest memories I have always loved to cook – and eat. In high school I had planned on attending the Culinary Institute (and was admitted) but decided, after my education was finished, to go into the corporate world. My passion for food and flavors remained with me, and twelve years ago I told my wife I would like to have a spice shop. Four years ago I had the opportunity to open the shop in Princeton.”
We met at All Saints Episcopal Church just off Terhune Road at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 17, 2014. Guests were welcomed. Light refreshments and fellowship followed the presentation.
