NOVEMBER 2016

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:
I want to thank members who have stepped up to the plate to help out where there was need.  Bonnie Larson has taken over the organization of the out-to-lunch group.  She stepped in when Mary Laity was ill and has agreed to stay on.  Bonnie is keeping alive one of the most popular groups in the club.  I cannot thank her enough and I also know that she is a very busy woman and is still willing to share her energy with us.  Danuta Buzdygan has agreed to be membership chair, a position with growing responsibilities as we try to expand our membership.  I am so grateful for her willingness to share her energy and that great smile with all of us and our guests.  Thank you, Bonnie and Danuta, so much.
 -Kathy Hutchins

GENERAL MEETING  We shall meet on the second Monday of November, the 14th.
at 1:00 P.M. at ALL SAINTS CHURCH, TERHUNE RD., PRINCETON
“Chauncey Hotel and Conference Center-A Unique Oasis in Princeton”
November 14, 2016
This lakeside property, located just minutes from downtown Princeton, is surrounded by 370 acres of peaceful woodlands.  Close by is the historic Laurie House, a former hunt club, now a small inn.  A helipad is on the grounds.  Most of us know the area as a meeting place for conferences, a special place for tea, an Art Gallery, a setting for weddings or celebrations such as our 100th Anniversary.  The Chauncey Center accommodates all these and so much more!  Catherine Geer and Cynthis McQuaid, our speakers, will share with us their “behind the scene” experiences at this unique place.
 -Janet Reiche

BOARD MEETING:
The board will meet on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the home of Marlene Gordon. If you are unable to join us, please let Marlene know.  Come before 10:00 to chat over coffee before Kathy calls the meeting to order at that time.

LUNCHING OUT GROUP:
Mary Laity has been so busy working on rehabilitating after her accident, combined with moving, that Bonnie Larson has graciously taken over as chair of this group.  On Friday,  October 21, the group will gather at Vidalia Restaurant in Lawrenceville.  However, Bonnie has asked for reservations by the 14th of this month.
If you would like to be on a waiting list, in case of someone cancelling, let Bonnie know .

OPERA GROUP:
No MET/HD opera is scheduled for November, but an unfamiliar one, “L’Amour de Loin” by Kaija Saariaho will be held on December 10.  (More information about that will come in the December/January issue.)  Aloha Holloway will be taking calls for that

BOOK GROUP:
December 2, the first Friday of December, is the meeting date of the Book Group, which will gather at the home of Carol Stawski.
The Rules Civility, by Amor Towles, will be the subject of the day.  If you can join us, please call Carol.  We now gather at 1:00 p.m. for light refreshments and discussion.

SUNSHINE LADY:
If you know a member who is ill or who has lost a family member, please call Bonnie Larson, our Sunshine Lady, who will send a card representing the College Club.

NEW MEMBER:
Welcome to Louise R. Irving

NEWS OF OUR MEMBERS:
Long-time member, Jean C. Murphy, died.  Graveside services were held Thursday, September 22, at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Cemetery.  Jean had been involved with the College Club whenever she was able.

Mary Frances Stahler had major surgery on September 27.  She has been recovering at the home of her brother.

Margy Eldred has moved from the area.
She will let us know when her phone is in operation.

Helen Ju, who magically keeps our website up-to-date, had surgery in September, but she is now better and able to participate in her activities.

We all enjoy the refreshments at the general meetings.  Doris Tazelaar has graciously accepted the responsibility of arranging this until Mary Frances Stahler, the new chair, is well.  She can use assistance. Please call her.

HAPPY NOVEMBER BIRTHDAYS:   Danuta Buzdygan and Kathy Hutchins

QUESTION:
What other kinds of additions would you like to see in our Blue Slip/Newsletter?  A short description of a member’s overseas travel?  A special musical experience?  Let Kathy Hutchins or your editor know..

LOOKING FORWARD:
Ginny Mason  has offered the use of her lovely home for our Scholarship Tea on May 23, 2017, from 3:00 to 5:00.  Put this date on your calendar.  It will be a happy day for so many young women, and we would like to see most of our members enjoying it with them.  You could meet the girls, their families, and sometimes their advisors.
