President’s Message

So, how is everyone doing with social isolation?  I am presently hanging family photographs in my little office and creating an utter mess in the rest of the house.  But the really good news is that Carol Stawski is back home at Windrows!

Many of you responded to my asking about how everyone was spending their time.  Walking, bird watching, cooking, and listening to Ray Charles were some suggestions.  The following books were recommended: “The Radium Girls” by Kate Moore, “Sweet Tooth” by Ian McEwan, “The Weeping Girl” by Hakan Nesser, “Anything is Possible” by Elizabeth Strout, “Enigma” and “Munich” by Robert Harris, and “Commonwealth” by Ann Patchett.

Danuta Buzdygan suggested that members of the Club might volunteer if New Jersey started a contact tracking program.  Such a program is labor intensive and might need a large volunteer contingent.

The board will meet again by Zoom Tuesday, May 5th, when we will be reviewing a slate of officers for next year as well as hearing about the efforts of our Scholarship Committee during these complicated times.

We will also review a November benefit which seems unlikely.  Let me know if you think there is something that the membership needs to know or care about during this time isolation.

Please stay safe.

SCHOLARSHIP UPDATE

As of April 19th, we have 12 applications from the three private schools.  They are very impressive young ladies with true financial need.  Princeton High School still has to submit applications and that is where we will receive the largest number.  The Endowment and Treasury will provide combined funding in the amount of $22,000 this year.  The committee is investigating ways in which we can honor and celebrate the awardees since we cannot hold a scholarship tea this year.
