PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

We did it!  We turned a hundred years old, surrounded by friends, well-wishers, assemblymen, and a cellist!  I want to thank everyone who worked so hard to make our celebration such a success and so much fun.  Janet Reiche and Gay Culin, thank you so much for organizing this wonderful event.  I want to mention Jeff Lippincott, an unsung hero of this Club.  Jeff helped with the setup on Sunday and did a great job with our banner, which proved to have a life of its own when being hung from the balcony.  Jeff is also our website wizard when things go awry or in the cloud.  Jeff helped drag us kicking and screaming into the 21st century.  And there is simply not enough space here to thank Nora Ananos for her poster, logo, artwork, banner, and energy and grace.  Her poster and update of the triptych will be on display at the annual meeting on May 16th.

Celebrating birthdays in May are Dotty Fullam, Dee Cantrell, Marge DeYongh, Mary
Frances Stahler, Reba Lippincott, and Ellyn Vogel.  If you were left out, please let me know.  Birthdays are important.

I look forward to seeing everyone at our annual meeting on May 16th when we will elect new officers, get a hint of next year’s programs, eat, and listen to a thought-provoking program.

Kathy Hutchins

100 YEARS – WCCP

What a fabulous occasion as members and guests (102 strong) joined together to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Women’s College Club of Princeton on Sunday, April 10th!  The weather dawned sunny and bright, guests were welcomed by past presidents as they entered the Chauncey Center and were directed to the beautifully decorated Solomon Room where a young cellist from Princeton University greeted them.  Displays at the History Table featured events of the past 100 years.

Following a delicious tea, our President Kathy Hutchins welcomed everyone and introduced special guests.  We all raised our champagne glasses as we toasted 100 years of fulfilling our mission of awarding scholarships to deserving young women of Princeton area schools and of providing cultural enrichment for ourselves and the Princeton community.  Treby Williams, Executive Vice President of Princeton University, introduced our guest speaker, Professor Nancy Malkiel, Former Dean of Princeton University, who delivered an inspiring speech highlighting the introduction of undergraduate women to the campuses of Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth, etc.

Many thanks to the committee who cheerfully spent many hours planning for this event and to all the donors who contributed so generously.  It was a splendid afternoon of celebration!  Here’s to the next 100!

Janet Reich

GENERAL MEETING  –  MONDAY, MAY 16, 2016  –  12:00 p.m. – ALL SAINTS CHURCH

“THE MORE THINGS CHANGE, THE MORE THEY STAY THE SAME?  A LOOK AT YOUTH CULTURE IN A MODERN WORLD”

Elizabeth Casparian has appeared on My9News, MSNBC, CBS News, The Today Show, and the CBS Early Show.  She has been interviewed by “Seventeen Magazine” and “Family Circle Magazine”, as well as several other publications.  She received her MS and PhD in Education from the University of Pennsylvania and has a BS in Human Development and Family Studies from Cornell University.

Her presentation will focus on how youth and young adults in today’s modern world are different from and similar to youth throughout the ages.  With both a common sense and a public health approach, Elizabeth will bring her expertise to bear on issues of how social media, bullying, decision making, and family dynamics have evolved and what the long term impacts could be on our children, grandchildren, and future generations.

Light refreshments will be served after the meeting, and as usual, guests are always welcome.
